Marie A. St Jean

Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Marie Ange Saint-Jean, lovingly known to many as Estella. Born on July 20, 1940, in Port-de-Paix, Haiti, Marie was the cherished daughter of Louis-Evariste, affectionately known as Mareus—a respected farmer—and Philomène, or Trezile a visionary trader and a powerful presence in the Haitian economy. Marie’s life was a beautiful testament to resilience, generosity, and unconditional love. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend—a woman whose strength was as profound as her kindness. Her journey carried her from her beloved Haiti to the Bahamas, and eventually to the United States in 1978. Through each chapter of her life, Marie worked tirelessly to create a better future for her family. She met every challenge with quiet determination and a steadfast spirit. She never sought recognition, but her actions spoke volumes through her selflessness, her warmth, and the countless lives she uplifted. Wherever she went, Marie brought light. She was always ready to help those in need, whether in Haiti, the Bahamas, or the U.S. She gave freely of her time, her energy, and her love—offering not only help, but hope. She had a way of showing up exactly when people needed her, bringing comfort, compassion, and an open heart. Marie celebrated joy with her whole being laughing, dancing, and embracing the beauty in each moment. And in times of sorrow, she stood steady offering strength, grace, and a gentle presence that made others feel held and understood. She was the proud and loving mother of six children: Carl Morisseau, Julie Morisseau, Ernest St. Jean, Johnny St. Jean, Chantal St. Jean, and Irvence St. Jean. Her love and legacy live on through her many grandchildren: Irvence St. Jean Jr., Milca Jeune, Cheldie Jeune, Nachelie Jeune, Jerry St. Jean, Sandy Almonord, Cassandra Noel, Mikey Delva, David St. Jean, Nathan St. Jean, Ashley Nortelus St. Jean, Carline Morisseau, Stanley Morisseau, Stevenson Morisseau, and Rockenley Morisseau. And her joy was multiplied through her great-grandchildren: Malana Louis, Jaden Morisseau, Messiah Armani Morisseau, Nedjina Previsnor, Steevender Previsnor, and Neika Previsnor. Though she lost her beloved husband, Saint Hubert Tidor fondly remembered as Tibè—on December 20, 2006, Marie carried his memory forward with dignity and grace, continuing to nurture a family that will forever honor both of their legacies. Marie is survived by her brothers, Aleus St. Jean and Joe Saint Cyrin, and was predeceased by her brother, Dr. Gilbert Saint Jean. She is also remembered lovingly by her sister, Marie Dominique M. Cherefrere. Her extended family includes sons-in-law Exantis Jeune; daughters-in-law Naomi Beaubrun-St. Jean, Rosette Morisseau, and Fernande St. Jean; and many others in the Madevous, Pierrela St. Jean, Macdalie Gedeon, Aristide, Laurent, and Marcellus families each of whom felt the deep impact of her love and presence. Marie Ange Saint-Jean’s home was always a sanctuary, a place where hearts were healed, laughter was shared, and love was limitless. Her legacy is not just in the family she raised, but in the spirit, she left with all of us: a spirit of compassion, faith, strength, and warmth. She taught us that the truest strength lies in love, and that even the smallest acts of kindness can ripple across generations. We will miss her deeply. But today, as we reflect on her life, let us hold close the lessons she lived by and let her memory continue to guide us, comfort us, and inspire us.
