Mathieu Charlot

A Time To Be Born Each soul that is privileged to grace this side of life is ordained to influence the social foundation in a variety of ways. February 8th, 1931, ushered in a new day to the family of the late Similor Charlot and Iliora Saint-Brave of Bas de Saint Anne, Anse-a-Foleur, Haïti, where Mathieu was born. He was the first of six children, two boys and four girls. All his siblings have predeceased him except for his sister Louisa Charlot. Education After graduating from high school, Mathieu developed a passion for fashion. He then secured an apprenticeship with a well-known professional tailor and ultimately became a tailor. Family He fathered 10 children: five sons: Michael, Stevenson, Hudson (deceased), Adderley, and Patrick, and five daughters: Mona Charlot-Préal, Marie-Gustin Charlot, Michelle D. Mérilus, Marlene B. Charlot, and Mary E. Charlot-Aladin. In search of providing a better life for his family, Mathieu left Haïti and immigrated to Freeport, Bahamas in 1959 and worked as a tailor. And in 1978, he immigrated to the United States. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, dedicating over 40 as a cab driver and earning countless compliments from his passengers. Faith In January 1988, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior, at Haitian Emmanuel Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his death. In 1995, he was ordained as a Deacon. He was highly active in his Church, serving in various ministries as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary. He loved people and was always willing to listen and to give good advice to children and adults alike. Throughout his spiritual journey, he served faithfully to advance God’s kingdom until the Lord called him to his eternal home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. A Time to Die After a long debilitating illness, Mathieu was called to his eternal home where there is no more suffering. He is survived by: his sister: Louisa Charlot; sons: Michael, Stevenson, Adderley and Patrick; daughters: Mona Charlot-Préal, Marie-Gustin Charlot, Michelle D. Mérilus, Marlene “Sheba” Charlot and Mary “Loly” Charlot-Aladin; sons-in-law: Kenny Mérilus, Larry Jean-Pierre Joseph and Romain Préal. Daughter-in-Law Mayte Charlot; grandsons: Frantz Mathieu Saintil, Michael Spencer Charlot, Nick Joseph, Chesney Charlot, Dudley Charlot and Brayan Charlot; granddaughters: Carolyn Mérilus, Linda Mérilus, Janice Haywood, Kimberly Arrigo, Melissa Préal, Tamika Préal, Soraya Joseph, Gabriela Charlot, Vanessa Charlot, Gardine Mathieu, Eleora Aladin, Arianna Chambers, Joanna Parker, Olivia Naim, Francisca Louis and Marrissa Louis; great-grandsons: Ethan Haywood, Wyatt Haywood, Nicholas Johnson, Jonathan Saintil, Jacob Charlot, Kai Romain Préal-Walsh, Garvin Naim, Zane Naim, and Wade Altidor; great-granddaughters: Samantha Saintil, Schawsia Altidor, and Kennedy Arrigo; nephews and nieces: Raymond Charlot and Suzette Charlot; others: his Haitian Emmanuel Baptist Church’s family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
