Zette Numa

Bernadette, Zette, Inan, or Manmi as she was affectionately known by many was a beloved mother, sister, and friend who went to be with her Lord on October 2, 2022. She courageously battled triple negative breast cancer for about three and a half years before she passed at a hospice facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. Inan was born in 1958 to the late Paquel & Lucia Desir in Flamands, Haiti. After some schooling in her home city, she journeyed to Port-au-Prince, where she took on a job at a textile factory and started a family. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to pursue additional business ventures. In 2005, Inan moved to the United States with five of her children. She worked in the food service industry, always with a smile on her face, to provide for her family in the U.S. and Haiti. She often used her income to purchase, package, and ship goods to Haiti to support her family and friends. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Inan knew her family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She loved to cook, sing, and dance. Watching competitive sports always made her day. An avid fan of the beautiful game of football (soccer), she could be found watching the game with rapt attention and giving her commentary on the side; the Brazilian national team was her favorite. She often lamented the injustice of Brazil’s loss to France in the 1998 World Cup Final but was ecstatic about their vengeful victory in 2002. Her children remember being woken up at 4 a.m. to watch World Cup games before school, as Mummy clearly had her priorities straight. Basketball was another of her treasured pastimes, and she got to see the Miami Heat play at home in the FTX Arena twice. Despite her sweet spirit, Inan also loved professional wrestling. The WWE programs were ones she watched often; she especially enjoyed Monday Night RAW. Even after her cancer diagnosis, she continued spreading love and positivity to all, striking up beautiful friendships with all her nurses and hospice caretakers. She would ask about their families, thank them for their care, and send them off with a blessing. Inan loved well and was always willing to lend a helping hand, even when she did not have much to give. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son. She is survived by her children Martine of Jacmel, Haiti; Henry “Apapa” of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Roody “Djo-Djo” of Coconut Creek, FL; Ralph “Bobby” of Sunrise, FL; Nadia “Mika” (Edwin) of West Lafayette, IN; Weslez “Sonson” and Piery “Peter” both of Boca Raton, FL; her siblings Maxon, Pollo, Clebert, Payaya, and Claudette, all of Haiti; Mr. Rosemond Numa, and six grandchildren in Haiti and Florida. A memorial mass for Inan will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33483. There will be a viewing on October 14, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Fort’s Funeral Home in North Miami Beach, followed by visitation with the family. The family address for visitation is 6110 NW 17 th Street, Sunrise, FL 33313. She will be laid to rest at the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in North Lauderdale, FL, following the mass on Saturday. Flowers can be sent to the family address listed above.
