Santos Faldony, affectionately known as “Le Pere” or “Papa Santos,” peacefully transitioned from this life on Thursday, February 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Miami, Florida, at the remarkable age of 96. Born on April 28, 1928, in the serene town of Cavaillon, Haiti, Santos was the beloved son of the late Suzanne Berret and Lucien Faldony, whose values of hard work and compassion he carried forward throughout his life. Papa Santos was a pillar of strength and an embodiment of dedication both in his personal and professional life. In the bustling world of construction, he earned the revered title “Boss Santos,” specializing in roofing. His role as “contremaître” was not just a job but a calling, where he skillfully managed projects, imparted wisdom, and trained countless individuals under the guidance of engineers. His craftsmanship and leadership left an indelible mark on those he mentored, inspiring a new generation of builders. In 1951, Santos’s life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, the late Meralda Julie Saint-Paul. Their union was a testament to love and partnership, and together they welcomed their firstborn, Hilaire, four years later. Papa Santos worked tirelessly to provide for his family, enduring the physical demands of his trade and even sustaining injuries that required him to have iron placed in his body. His sacrifices were a testament to his unwavering commitment to his family’s well-being. After migrating from Haiti, Santos settled in Miami, where he continued his legacy of love and generosity. His home became a haven, where the yard was a symbol of his nurturing spirit. Visitors to Papa Santos knew they would leave with more than they came for—whether it was a fresh mango, a coconut from his beloved trees, or a small token of his kindness, like a piece of candy or a few dollars. His generosity knew no bounds, and he shared whatever he had with an open heart. Papa Santos was a man of light and laughter; known for his gentle spirit and the warmth he brought into every room. His jokes and stories were legendary, bringing joy to all who had the pleasure of hearing them. Yet, his greatest joy was his family, whom he cherished above all else. His dedication to his loved ones was unwavering, and he was a constant source of support and guidance, always putting his children and family first. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children: Wilfrid “Hilaire” Faldony, Suzette Faldony, Betty Faldony, Victor Valdoni, Margarette Faldony-Cineus, and Marlene Julia Faldony. His role as a grandfather brought him immense pride, and he adored his grandchildren: Evens, Weedler, Eder, Amanda, Hugues, Beatrice, Adressant, Smith, Adolphe Jr., Kasandra, Keny, Erica, Rebecca, Marsha, Mitchell, Marvin, and Abby. In addition, he is survived by many great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and longtime family friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Papa Santos’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, the warmth he shared with everyone he met, and his commitment to mentoring and uplifting others. His legacy will continue to flourish in the countless lives he touched. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will forever be a guiding light for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but the love he so freely gave and the lessons he so generously shared will continue to inspire and nourish all who were blessed to know him. His memory will be eternal.
