Jacques Laday

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jacques Laday, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on December 24, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on August 25, 1933, to André Laday and Venecia Charles in the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jacques lived a life marked by love, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. Jacques, known to those who loved him as “Coco,” was a man of humble beginnings who grew to become a source of strength and inspiration to everyone who knew him. Coco attended Hermann-Hero for primary and secondary school and later pursued vocational training at JB Damien in Port-au-Prince, specializing in construction work. From an early age, Coco dreamed of building homes—a dream he fulfilled with pride and skill as a respected home builder and foreman. Coco’s skilled hands and visionary spirit brought structures to life, and his work stood as a testament to his dedication and craft. On April 16, 1986, Coco made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States, where he began a new chapter, bringing his boundless dedication and work ethic to all that he did. Through his hard work, he created a better life for his family while remaining true to his values of honesty, humility, and compassion. Coco was not only a builder of homes but also a builder of relationships. He had an extraordinary ability to bring people together, acting as a peacemaker and a trusted friend. His love for classical and Zouk music reflected his refined and vibrant spirit, while his membership in Cercle Port-au-Princien kept him closely connected to his Haitian roots. For 69 beautiful years, Coco shared his life with his beloved wife, Alicia Saint Germain, also known as “Manman,” who peacefully passed away in 2015 in the comfort of her home. Together, Manman and Coco built a legacy of love, perseverance, and faith. Coco will be remembered as a man of profound integrity, a humble soul who taught us the importance of family and hard work. He showed us how to honor our roots, cherish loved ones, and find joy in the small, beautiful moments of life. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unshakable belief in the goodness of others. Though our hearts ache at his absence, we take comfort in knowing that Coco is at peace, reunited with those who have gone before him. His memory will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of those who loved him. Coco is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and the countless family members he touched with his kindness. Rest in eternal peace, Coco.
