Elisabeth Atis

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Elisabeth Atis on March 15, 2025. While we mourn her loss, we also gather to celebrate a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Mostly known as “Bebet”, Elisabeth was more than just a mother, sister, aunt, and friend—she was a light in the lives of so many. She had a heart big enough to embrace everyone, welcoming people into her home with open arms and making them feel like family. Her kindness and generosity weren’t just qualities; they were the very essence of who she was. Elisabeth had a way of making people smile—whether through her infectious laughter, her warm hugs, or the way she could tell a joke just right. Even in her final days, she continued to praise God, showing us all what true faith and grace look like. Her story began on June 5, 1951, in Saint-Louis-du-Nord, Haiti, born to Limonde Valcin and Masillon Atis. In 1980, she made the journey to Miami, Florida, to be with her family and build a new life. She pursued her education at Dorsey Technical School and worked as a seamstress, using her hands not only to craft but also to create warmth and comfort for those around her. A Family That Loved Her Deeply Elisabeth leaves behind her beloved daughter, Nisi Barr, and an extended family that spans generations. She was one of 27 siblings, a devoted aunt to countless nieces and nephews, and a cherished cousin and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her brothers Dorgelus Atis, Manes Atis, Luders Atis, and Alphonse Atis, but her love and legacy live on through her surviving siblings: Firmin Atis, Ivertina Laurent, Marie Octave, Renan Atis, Gerard Atis, Marie Joseph Atis, Jean Atis, Toussaint Atis, Rigobert Atis, Sonia Atis, and Za Atis. Her family tree extends far and wide, touching the lives of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including: In-laws: Sylvanie Atis, Sainte Therisnee Atis, Amid Atis, Odany Octave. She made sure no one left her home hungry, unloved, or without a smile. Her strength was quiet but unshakable, and her love was the kind that left an imprint on your heart. Though she is no longer with us, Elisabeth’s spirit lives on in every laugh, every act of kindness, and every moment we cherish together as a family. Heaven has gained an angel, but we have gained a guardian angel watching over us forever.
