Anita Kain

The family of Anita T Kain is devasted to share the news of her passing on July 25th 2023 in Sunny Isles Beach (Miami) Florida at the age of 64. She passed peacefully at her home on the beach, surrounded and embraced by those she loved most. Anita was born in Belgrade on October 3, 1958 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 5. She attended King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario and graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1983. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985 and began her distinguished career as an accomplished and well-known family law lawyer. Anita was a wonderful and beloved mother and grandmother. Her greatest love, pride and joy was her daughter Lauren. The bond shared by the two of them is something truly special, and will continue to endure as only a love like that can. She felt pure joy watching Lauren marry her husband Craig in December of 2021 and welcoming her beautiful Grandson Leo on June 30, 2023. Anita was determined to meet him, hold him and whisper “I love you” and as she did that, you could see in his angelic face that he loved her right back. Anita is predeceased by her loving father Michael Kain in January 2023. She is survived and remembered with deep love by her husband Warren (daughters Erin and Elly and grandchildren Austin and Gemma), mother Radmila (Seka) Kain, sister Gloria (Darryl), nieces Rebecca and Natalie dearest friends Alexis (Jeff) and Diana and so many other colleagues, friends and family. Anita was a brilliant lawyer as she was both a skilled negotiator and a captivating advocate. After starting the firm together with her dear friend David Ball, Anita built and maintained a thriving family law practice (Kain and Ball). The culture of the firm that she worked so hard to build was truly unique and a direct result of Anita’s approach to the practice of law and to life; balancing striving for excellence with affection, humour, and comradery. The door to her office was always open, whether it was to discuss legal strategy, seek advice about a personal problem, or show off an outfit of the day. She proudly mentored and supported many young lawyers; enthusiastically sharing her knowledge and insight as they developed their careers. Anita was genuinely liked by her colleagues and fostered strong relationships as a well-respected lawyer within the Family Law Bar over her 38 year career, and she treasured those relationships. She consistently invested in personal growth through positive lifestyle choices such as high intensity fitness pursuits (kickboxing, cycling, tennis) and many other physically and mentally demanding activities. A vivacious powerhouse, Anita’s inner strength, passion for tackling a challenge, contagious optimism, and intense energy served her well both professionally and personally; especially with her courageous battle with cancer over the last 16 months. Anita had a passionate love of life that she shared with anyone lucky enough to enter her orbit. Her kindness and compassion for others coupled with her magnetic personality had her quickly turn strangers into friends, and friends into family. Those lucky enough to be in her inner circle know that she loved fully and openly and she didn’t hesitate to express her feelings. A fierce protector of anyone or anything she saw as vulnerable, she loved all animals and sensing her kind and gentle nature, they loved her back. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel around the globe; she had a special place in her heart for Paris having made many beautiful memories there; and felt the most at peace and at home at the beach, often calling it “her beach”. Anita had an appreciation for beautiful things of all kinds, but especially for fashion and shoes in particular (she was known for her impressive and extensive shoe collection). The *click-clack* of high heels down the hall often preceded her, and when you did see her, she’d be dressed to the nines, and smiling. She had a special gift for finding and seeking out fun and joy and sharing it with those around her in any setting. She loved to dance- a passion of hers since childhood, and was usually the first one on and the last one off the dance floor. She impressed upon Warren that this was an important skill to acquire: it didn’t matter where they were, if the right song came on, they were instantly in each other’s arms. She loved with all her heart and was loved in equal measure right back. We love you Anita to the moon and back.
